IEEE-CNSV Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy was last modified on May 24, 2018.

IEEE-CNSV operates (the “Site”). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information we receive from users of the Site.

We use your Personal Information only for providing and improving the Site. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. Unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy, terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, accessible at

Information Collection And Use
While using our Site, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to, your name, email address, postal address and phone number (“Personal Information”). This information may be collected from the Contact form or the Post-A-Project form. Upon active use or completion of correspondence for either of these forms, the information is archived in our database for historical data use only and is not used for any other purpose, including the sharing of that data with any other websites, entities, etc.

Our Site requires members to log in for posting to the Blog or for posting comments. Non-member visitors are not permitted to participate in Blog posts or comments. When members leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, display that data on the Blog page, and also collect the visitor’s browser user agent string to help us develop for our members’ popular platforms.

If members upload images or videos to the website, they should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. All visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images displayed on the website.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Links To Other Sites
Our Site may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

IEEE-CNSV has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party sites or services.

Website Analytics
To improve your experience on our Site, we use ‘cookies’. Cookies are an industry standard and most major websites use them. A cookie is a small text file that our Site may place on your computer as a tool to remember your preferences. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser; however, please note that if you do so, you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.

Our website uses Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand website traffic and webpage usage. You can opt-out of Google Analytics for this and other websites by installing the Google Opt-out Browser Add-on (for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, IE 11.) To see how Google Analytics collects and uses your information, see Safeguarding Your Data.

Who We Share Your Data With
Our Site does not share data with any other companies, entities, or websites – including partners, sponsors, and third-party service providers. However, if you sign up for an IEEE-CNSV event and make a payment via PayPal, the information you enter into the Payment form, such as your name and email address, will be transferred to the PayPal website upon your execution of payment. For more information, see PayPal’s Privacy Policy.

How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment on the CNSV Blog, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For registered members of IEEE-CNSV, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All members can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. You can discontinue your IEEE-CNSV membership at anytime by contacting us. Discontinuing your membership in IEEE-CNSV will cause your profile and all of its associated data to be deleted permanently. Note that, if you posted articles or comments to the CNSV Blog, those posts will remain even after you discontinue your membership. However, if you wish to remove those posts, please contact us.

Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us, by contacting us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where We Send Your Data
Information displayed on and contained in our Site is transferred to our Website Hosting Provider as the Site and webpages are visited by CNSV members and visitors. For information regarding the Privacy Policy for our Website Hosting Provider, please contact us.

Changes To This Privacy Policy
IEEE-CNSV may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on the Site. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
