Highlight of Super Mobility Week in Las Vegas
While the world was busy obsessing over Apple’s latest iAnnouncements, I joined more than 1,100 exhibitors in Las Vegas last week for CTIA 2014 – the annual cellular industry show, now co-located with “4G World” and dubbed “Super Mobility Week.”
Although I go to catch up on the latest infrastructure developments (new base stations, cellular radio access devices, Wi-Fi / cellular convergence, etc), I have to admit the coolest things are happening in the mobile device space.
Perhaps the most interesting thing I saw was the Vysk QS1 iPhone case. Thanks to a physical processor built into the case, which performs encryption outside of the device, your iPhone calls become encrypted and virtually impenetrable. Perhaps steep at $230 for a phone case, but it also jams your mic and shutters your camera so no one can hijack your iPhone to eavesdrop or peep on your surroundings. To top it all off, the QS1 carries a 2,000-mAh battery to provide you with extra juice.
